Boeing B-29 Superfortress 'Doc.The Navy is notoriously difficult to deal with when it comes to retrieving old aircraft, but they needed a North American B-25 Mitchell for the National Museum of Naval Aviation in Pensacola, Florida. Mazzolini found a B-25 in Venezuela; bought it back to the U.S.; had it restored by the Air Heritage Museum in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania; and traded it for the Navy's B-29 at China Lake.

Boeing B-29 Superfortress
Doc

Doc was retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1956 and sent to the Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake for use as a ballistic missile target. Thankfully for us, the Navy missed each time they targeted her and she survived.

Tony Mazzolini found the last surviving China Lake B-29. He then had to battle the Navy bureaucracy to gain possession of Doc and restore her to flight status.
