Mikoyan-Gurevich
MiG-3

The Soviets started production of the MiG-3 on December 20, 1940, and it was built in large numbers during 1941 before production was converted to the Ilyushin Il-2. It was designed for high-altitude combat but fighting over the Eastern Front was generally at lower altitudes, where it was inferior to the Messerschmitt Bf 109 as well as most of its Soviet contemporaries.
