Vought A-7E Corsair II

This aircraft (BuNo 159268) was built by LTV Aviation in Dallas, Texas and delivered to the Navy on 21 March 1974. It was dropped from active service in January of 1980 and is on loan from the National Museum of Naval Aviation at NAS Pensacola. It was transferred to MAPS from the Intrepid Air-Sea-Space Museum on November 2004.

Vought A-7E
Corsair II

The A-7E mounted a 20mm gun and could carry payloads of up to 15,000 pounds of bombs and missiles. The A-7 series were light attack aircraft based on the F-8 Crusader airframe design. The USAF also purchased a version of the A-7, designated the A-7D, for Tactical Air Command.
