Aichi M6A1 Seiran

This Seiran was the last airframe built (serial number 28) and the only surviving example of the Seiran in the world. Imperial Japanese Navy Lt. Kazuo Akatsuka ferried this Seiran from Fukuyama to Yokosuka where he surrendered it to an American occupation contingent. Its restoration was completed in 2000.

Aichi M6A1 Seiran

The Aichi Seiran was specially designed for deployment from I-400 class Japanese super-submarines. The planes can "fold" down to fit in an 11-foot 6-inch hangar tube. They were designed to bomb the locks of the Panama Canal during World War II. While twenty-eight Aichi Seirans were built, none ever flew a combat mission.
