The F6F replaced the outclassed F4F Wildcat and
gave U.S. pilots an aircraft that was faster and almost as maneuverable
as their Japanese opponents. The F6F-3 had a 2000 hp
Pratt & Whitney R-2800-10W engine, a
range of 945 mi (1,521 km), and a top speed of 380 mph (611 km/h).
