Bell YP-59A
Airacomet

This was the first jet-propelled U.S. aircraft. The YP-59A first flew on 1 October 1942 at Muroc Dry Lake and was powered by two General Electric I-A engines. The I-A was the first U.S. built jet engine and was a copy of the British "Whittle" engine.
