On 15 June 2011, 400 police were called to Ciutadella park to prevent protesters from entering the parliament building. Politicians had to use police helicopters to get to the parliament and avoid approximately 2,000 demonstrators who tried to blockade the building in a protest against cuts in the education and health budget, along with other welfare cuts. Catalan officials are trying to cut public spending and social welfare programs by 10 percent.
