Tantallon Castle is a ruined mid-14th century fortress, located 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) east of North Berwick, in East Lothian, Scotland. It was built by the 1st Earl of Douglas and sits atop a promontory looking out onto the Firth of Forth. Tantallon comprises a single wall blocking off the headland, with the other three sides naturally protected by sea cliffs. The castle withstood two successive Stewart kings, and for 300 years, it was the scene of banquets and sieges, until Oliver Cromwell's guns took it in 1651.
