Charles ignored advice to launch a guerrilla campaign and insted chose to stage a defensive action and confront his enemy. He also ignored warnings that the marshy, rough ground at Drumossie Moor would favor the larger Government forces.
The Duke of Cumberland commanded 8,000 soldiers against about 6,000 Jacobites. The English suffered 300 casualties while the Jacobites lost 1,500 – 2,000.
