Bet HaMa'ayan Excavations

Some believe this water system is the Biblical tzinnor (water channel) through which King David's soldiers conquered the city: "Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Zion; the same is the city of David. And David said on that day: 'Whoever smiteth the Jebusites, and getteth up the gutter...' David dwelt in the stronghold, and called it the city of David." (II Sam 5:7-9)

A rock-cut pool and the remains of the bases of two towers were located here. The tower were part of the fortifications protecting the pool and Gihon Spring as early as the Middle Bronze Age (18-15 centuries BCE).
