Due to its particularly hot summers and meager annual rainfall, the Negev is ranked as an 'extreme desert'.

Negev Desert

The Negev Desert forms the triangular southern half of Israel. It extends from Beersheba south to the port of Eilat on the Gulf of Aqaba. It includes both flatlands and limestone mountains. Even though it has a layer of fertile loam soil, little grows because of the lack of rainfall.
