Major Richard "Dick" Bong
1940s -- Major Bong is creditied with 40 air-to-air victorys on the Pacific Theater and received the Medal of Honor from General Douglas MacArthur in a special ceremony in December 1944. On August 6, 1945, Bong died when the P-80 Shooting Star he was testing crashed.
