James Howard flew 56 missions with the Flying Tigers and was credited with shooting down six Japanese aircraft.

James H. Howard

1941 -- Capt. Howard was the only fighter pilot receive the Medal of Honor in the European Theater in World War II. In 1939 he was a U.S. Navy pilot abord the USS Enterprise (CV-6), but he left the Navy in 1941 to become a P-40 fighter pilot with the American Volunteer Group (AVG), the Flying Tigers.
