Serpentine Column

The Serpentine Column is one of the oldest monuments in Istanbul. It was the base of a golden cauldron erected at the Temple of Apollo at Delphi. Emperor Constantine the Great had it moved to the Hippodrome in 324 CE. The heads of the serpents were still intact in the early 1700s but were broken afterwards.
