Theodosian Walls

Emperor Theodosius II (408-450) expanded the area of Constantinople and extended the existing city walls out into the countryside. When finished, the Theodosian Walls were almost 7 km (over 4 miles) in length. With periodic repairs, they protected the city until the late 19th century.
