Tanzania
We arrived in Tanzania on August 18, 2018, and spent our first night in Zanzibar. The next morning we flew to Tarangire National Park. Tarangire is one of the best places in Africa to see elephant. On the third day we arrived at Lake Manyara National Park. The park has incredible ecological variety in a small area as it sits between the Gregory Rift wall to the west and Lake Manyara, an alkaline or soda-lake, to the east. The soda-lake is home to millions of nesting flamingos. The region, along with Tarangire National Park, is also famous for tree climbing lions. Day four brought a two hour drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The highlight of the day was a drive through the Ngorongoro Crater, a large volcanic caldera. Our final three days in the area were spent in the Serengeti National Park in northern Tanzania. This park boarders the Mara River and is known for its massive annual migration of wildebeest and zebra. We have some older photos of the Mara River in our Kenya section on this website.
