Compass Stone
The city of Washington D.C. is divided into quadrants,
and this compass stone in the Capitol floor beneath the Rotunda marks
the zero point from which the quadrants extend. This makes this point
the geographic center of Washington D.C.

President Ronald Wilson Reagan laid in state here on 9-11 June 2004, following
a memorial ceremony. He was President of the United States from 20 January
1981 to 20 January 1989 and died on 5 June 2004.
