USS Bowfin (SS-287) is a Balao-class fleet attack submarine that fought in the Pacific during WWII. It was launched on December 7, 1942, exactly one year after the attack on Pearl Harbor and is nicknamed the Pearl Harbor Avenger. The Bowfin completed nine successful war patrols and sunk 44 enemy ships.
