GE Gas Turbine
Locomotive

Union Pacific was the only railroad in the U.S. to own and operate gas turbine locomotives. GE built a total of 55 units for Union Pacific starting in 1952. The first 25 units packed 4,500 hp each. The last 30 units were the largest locomotives ever built - producing 8,500 hp apiece. The unit pictured here was one of those.
