Red-headed Woodpecker

The male Red-headed Woodpecker's winter roosting cavity may be used for a nest, or a new cavity may be excavated (mostly by male). The female indicates acceptance of the site by tapping on tree. The nest cavity is in a bare dead tree or dead limb, from a few feet above ground to 65' or higher.
