Ely Thomas Lumber Company Shay  Locomotive
Ephraim Shay designed this type of steam locomotive to meet the special needs of lumber companies. Logging camp lines were typically plagued by tight curves, steep grades, and poor track conditions. Standard gauge locomotives were nearly useless as a means of motive power under these conditions.

Parts of an Ely Thomas Lumber Company Shay Locomotive are stored on this flatcar. It was Class B, three cylinder, two truck, 36" gauge, geared steam engine built buy the Lima Locomotive Works of Lima, Ohio in 1917.
