Jim Wright and this aircraft were lost in a Wyoming crash on August 4, 2003, one week after this photo was taken. According to the NTSB, the crash was caused by the loss of a propeller counterweight.
Hughes H-1B Replica
This H-1B replica was built and piloted by Jim Wright. The original, and only, H-1B was designed and built by Howard Hughes in the 1930s and is displayed the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C.
