The Doc's Friends restoration team started the engines for the first time on September 18, 2015, and on May 11, 2016, they performed the first low-speed taxi tests. On July 7, 2016, Doc flew for the first time since 1956.

There are only two airworthy B-29s. The other one is 'FiFi', thich is maintained and operated by the Commemorative Air Force.
