Westland Lysander Mk.IIIA

This Lysander was built at Malton, Ontario in June 1942 and served with No. 8 Bombing & Gunnery School, Lethbridge, Alberta. The airframe was donated to the Museum in 1975 and restoration began in 1983. The Lysander flew again in 2009. The aircraft wears the black and yellow stripes of a BCATP air gunnery target tug.

Westland
Lysander Mk.IIIA

The Lysander had remarkable short field performance and came into its own with the Special Operations Executive, which supported the Resistance in German occupied France and Belgium. Lysanders flew in agents and picked up escapees using its remarkable STOL capabilities.
