Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-23 Flogger

The MiG-23 has variable-sweep wings that can be set at 16, 45, or 72 degrees of sweep. It entered service in 1973, and by the time production ceased in 1985 4,278 single-seat and 769 trainers were built.

Syrian AF

On 11 October 1989, a Syrian pilot defected, landing at Megiddo airstrip. After flight testing it ended up here at the IAF Museum. Israeli pilots shot down at least 19 MiG-23s during 1982 air war above Lebanon. Iraq, Libya, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen operate MiG-23s.
