North American
P-51H Mustang

The P-51H was the final production Mustang and embodied the experience gained in the development of the XP-51F and XP-51G. It was too late to fight in World War II but brought the development of the Mustang to a peak as one of the fastest production piston-engine fighters to see service. The P-51H had a remarkable top speed of 487 mph - 50 mph faster than the P-51D. With the last of 555 P-51Hs completed in 1946, the production run of the P-51 Mustang ended with over 15,000 of all types built.
