On April 23, 1945, the aircrew of this Halifax, NA337 2P-X, flew a mission delivering supplies to the Norwegian Resistance Forces northeast of Oslo. At 1:00 AM, April 24, they were hit by antiaircraft fire at the south end of Lake Mjosa. A 20 mm shell ruptured one of the fuel cells and the pilot, Flight Lieutenant Turnbull DFC, was forced to ditch his aircraft on Lake Mjosa. The crew evacuated the aircraft, but five of them perished in the cold water. Only the tail gunner, Thomas Weightman, survived.
