Grumman TBM-3E Avenger

George H.W. Bush joined the Navy in 1942 and became the youngest ever naval aviator in June of 1943. He flew Avengers from the USS San Jacinto with VT-51. On 2 September 1944 he crashed after an attack on Japanese installation on Chichi Jima. Bush earned the DFC for completing his attack and releasing his bombs over the target even though his aircraft had been hit.

Grumman
TBM-3E Avenger

Although this paint scheme is all wrong, this aircraft carries President Bush's name under the canopy. President George H.W. Bush was probably the most famous man to fly an Avenger.
