This P-47D crashed crashed into the Hudson River on 27 May 2016,
killing the pilot, Bill Gordon. A spokesman for the American Airpower Museum said “It suffered some sort of catastrophic failure and the pilot decided to put it down in the Hudson.” The aircraft was recovered the following day.

This P-47D-40 (S/N: 44-90447) is owned by the American Airpower Museum, Farmingdale, New York. The Yankee Air Museum wrongly identified this aircraft as a P-47N in their 2007 promotional literature.
