Wyoming - In 1997, the Wyoming Legislature selected Chief
Washakie (1798-1900) as the second figure to represent Wyoming in the
National Statuary Hall. Governor Jim Geringer said, "He led his people
through very difficult times in the history of the American West, and
yet, was always able to devote himself to statesmanship, bringing people
together, always standing firm for principles and for people"...
"He was as great a warrior as he was a statesman, respected for his
wisdom and his leadership."
