In spite of all the criticism and whining from petty activists, environmentalists, aesthetes, editorialists, and other assorted malcontents, this memorial has an air of majesty, solemnity, and beauty that properly gives tribute to America's greatest generation. It honors the 16 million Americans who wore a uniform during the 20th century's bloodiest and most important war.
