The Puʻu o Mahuka Heiau is on the North Shore of Oahu and is the largest heiau on the island, covering 2 acres on a hilltop overlooking Waimea Bay and Waimea Valley. Pu'u o Mahuka Heiau was most likely constructed as a luakini heiau (sacrificial temple) in the 1600s.
Hawaiian legends have it that from this point, Pele (Volcano Goddess) leaped from Oahu to the next island, Molokai.
