The USS Oklahoma Memorial stands to honor the 429 men who lost their lives aboard the Oklahoma on December 7, 1941. The memorial stands on the shores of Ford Island, near the former berth of the Oklahoma.
After the attack, the Oklahoma rested in the main channel of Pearl Harbor. A salvage operation began in March of 1943, and she entered drydock on December 28, 1943. Her guns and superstructure were removed after the Oklahoma’s formal decommissioning in September of 1944.
