In 1991, this aircraft was unofficially clocked at 500 mph while qualifying for the Reno Air Races. She reached an official speed of 490 mph during the race. On 25 September 1991, she was lost on her way home to South Dakota, when she snapped into the ground killing her pilot, John Sandberg.
