Lockheed Vega Winnie Mae

This was the 72nd Vega to be built by Lockheed. In 1963, it was purchased by Dave Jameson who restored the aircraft to the colours of Winnie Mae. It is currently on display at the Fantasy of Flight Museum in Polk City, Florida.

Lockheed Vega Model 5B
(NC105W) Winnie Mae

The Winnie Mae was built by Lockheed Aircraft Company at Burbank, California in 1930 as a Model 5B Vega. In 1932, it was modified to the Vega 5C standard. Wiley Post it around the world in 1931 and used it to set several speed records. He also used it to compete in the National Air Races. After Post was killed in an crash near Barrow, Alaska, on 15 August 1935, his widow sold NR105W to the Smithsonian Institution. It is on display at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C.
