Fairey T5 Gannet

The Gannet was designed as an antisubmarine and strike aircraft. It entered service in 1954 and is best known for its innovative use of coupled turbine engines and contra-rotating propellers. Both engines were used for takeoff, but one could then be shut down to extend range and patrol time.
