Col. (Ret.) Joseph Sweeney

Col. Sweeney was at the museum on August 7, 2015 to speak about his father and the war. On August 9, 1945, the B-29 Bockscar dropped the “Fat Man” atomic bomb on Nagasaki, which led to Japan’s unconditional surrender and the end of World War II.

Col. (Ret.) Joseph Sweeney is the son of pilot Gen. Charles Sweeney. Gen. Charles Sweeney was at the controls of Bockscar when it dropped an atomic bomb on Nagasaki, ending WWII.
