This aircraft rolled off the Lockheed assembly line at Marietta, Georgia in 1966. Tail number 66-0177 is arguably the most historically significant Starlifter ever built. While she clocked more than 40,000 flight hours in her 38 years of service, '177 is most remembered as the first U.S. aircraft to land in North Vietnam in 1973 to evacuate the U.S. prisoners of war held there.

The C-141 was the world's first turbofan-powered transport. It entered operational service in 1965. A total of 285 C-141s were built at Lockheed's Marietta facility from 1963 to 1968. Lockheed delivered one as a commercial
L-300 transport, which was used as a company demonstrator. NASA later used the
L-300 as an airborne observatory.
