USS Hornet
(CV-12)

During the first battle of the Philippine Sea on 20 Jun 1944, Hornet's bombers were credited with sinking the Japanese carrier Shokaku and damaging another carrier and cruiser. Hornet's fighters downed 52 Japanese planes in what became known as the Marianas Turkey Shoot.
