Lockheed P-38J Lightning

The P-38J first reached combat units in August of 1943. The engine nacelles had a different contour from prior versions, and while it retained the V-1719-89/91 engines of the P-38H, the P-38J had more efficient engine cooling which helped increase horsepower from 1240 to 1425 at 27,000 feet.
