Platform 17 Memorial

The earliest inscription (top photo) is dated October 18, 1941, when 1,251 people were sent to Lodz concentration camp. After that, the trains left regularly with thousands of victims. On November 29, 1942 (lower photo), the first train departed with 1000 Jews to Auschwitz.

Platform 17 Memorial

The centerpiece of the memorial is 186 steel plates placed in chronological order along the edge of the platform. Each plate contains the date of the deportation, the number of people deported, the point of departure in Berlin, and the destination.
