The opposite side of this sign has several names painted on it, such as Peter, Paul, Inge, and Anne.

The sign reads: "Jewish men must add the name 'Israel' to their first name and Jewish women must add 'Sara' to their first name." August 17, 1938.

The small sign attached to the bottom reads: "Remember - In the Bavarian Quarter: Marginalization, loss of rights, expulsion, deportation and murder of Berlin Jews from 1933 to 1945."

Bavarian Quarter

About 16,000 Jews lived in the Bavarian Quarter of the Schöneberg district before Hitler came to power. The “Places of Remembrance” memorial consists of 80 two-sided plaques. One side has an innocent-looking everyday item and the other side the official Nazi statute, presenting anti-Jewish laws and regulations under Nazi rule.
