Culloden Battlefield
On 16 April 1746, the Jacobite forces of Charles Edward Stuart (Bonnie Prince Charlie) were decisively defeated by a well-supplied Hanovarian Government army led by the Duke of Cumberland, son of King George II, near Inverness in the Scottish Highlands. The Jacobite Rising was an attempt to overthrow the House of Hanover and restore the House of Stuart to the British throne.
