This aircraft crashed on July 4, 2014, after taking off from Durango-La Plata County Airport in Colorado. Michael Schlarb and John Earley were killed. Earley bought the P-51D in 2013 and was building up hours towards certification. Schlarb, an experienced flight instructor, was instructing him.

This P-51D-30NA (S/N: 44-74446) was delivered to the RCAF (No. 9223) in 1950. It crashed during a forced landing in 1987 and was rebuilt in Chino in 1994.
