AVGP Cougar, SFOR Markings

The Armored Vehicle General Purpose (AVGP) Cougar was a tank trainer. The vehicle had a 3 man crew and used a British Scorpion tank turret mounting a 76mm L23A1 gun. Between 1979 and 1982, the Diesel Division of General Motors Canada built almost 200 examples. Although the Cougar was never meant to be a combat vehicle, some went overseas as part of peacekeeping missions, where its 75mm gun provided support for more lightly armed vehicles.

Canadians used this Cougar in Bosnia. Exploding mortar shells left visible damage on its exterior.
