PRR YA Test Weight Car No. 490398
Scale test cars were developed by the Pennsylvania Railroad for the calibration of track scales along its lines. The American Railway Association required that all railroad scales be tested every six months to ensure accuracy. Scale accuracy was important as shipping rates were based upon weight.

Pennsylvania Railroad No. 490398 is a class YA test weight car built at the Altoona Car Shops in 1891.
