Bob Hoover died on October 25, 2016, near his home in Los Angeles at the age of 94.

Durring World War II, Hoover was assignmed to the 52nd Fighter Group in Sicily, one of two Spitfire units in the USAAF. He flew 58 successful missions, but was shot down on his 59th off the coast of Southern France. Hoover spent 16 months in Stalag Luft 1.
