Site of the Block
A scaffold was erected at this small paved area to behead those whose public execution on Tower Hill might have incited the people to riot. The victims included Anne Boleyn, Catherine Howard, and Lady Jane Grey. The supposed suitor of Elizabeth I, Robert Devereux, Earl of Essex was also executed here.
