Type 82 Kubelwagen

Volkswagen made about 50,000 Kubelwagens, along with 14,283 Type 166 Schwimmwagens (an amphibious vehicle based on the same platform).

Type 82

The Kubelwagen (bucket car) was the German equivalent of the American Jeep during WWII. It was designed by Dr. Ferdinand Porsche in 1938 and based it on the VW Type 60 KdF Wagen (Volkswagen). Kraft durch Freude (KdF) means strength through joy.
